Bardstown road is filled with delicious dinner and lunch spots. But if you’re searching for a cozy Sunday breakfast spot, then Highland Morning is the place to be.

Highland Morning is a quaint place located only five minutes if you drive or about twenty minutes if you walk from campus.

At 9:30, our wait was only about 10 minutes. We were led to our table, which was in a unique room splattered with historic photographs on one side and a beautiful black and white mural on the other. Both of the rooms were full, but not too crowded as to sacrifice our comfort.

The photos and art on the walls gave a sense of Louisville hospitality that the Highlands can only provide. It reinforced the uniqueness of this part of Louisville. The service was much like the physical appearance of my trip to Highland Morning.

Our service was friendly, inviting and decently timed. The waitress was personable and gave us her honest opinions about the menu items. I had a hard time choosing among different meals, including the strawberry shortcake pancakes.

I picked a biscuit and gravy omelet. I usually don’t like omelets, but this one sounded too good to be true. It was a fluffy biscuit baked into a cheesy egg with sausage scattered throughout and savory gravy to top it off. I also had a side of their special cheesy grits.

Highland Morning is locally owned by the Coe family. It was originally meant to serve as a unique upscale breakfast encounter. The owners wanted to inspire a feeling of warmth and comfort from their food. I believe that they have accomplished this goal. I felt comforted by the environment and warmed by the food.

I was pleased to find that the prices of the menu items were well within my budget. Breakfast items ran from $7 to $13. There were many options, including eggs, pancakes of different flavors, fruit, grits, oatmeal, sausage and much more. There were different vegetarian options labeled on the menu.

If breakfast isn’t your favorite meal, Highland Morning has lunch options also. The menu consists of soups, salads, burgers and sandwiches. These ranged from $6 to $8 each.

Highland Morning is open on weekends from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., and weekdays 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
