DiOrio’s Pizza and Pub: 919 Baxter Ave., 2216 Dundee Rd. and 310 Wallace Ave.

Everyone likes a good pizza place, and Bardstown Road is no stranger to them. From big chains like Papa John’s to small local places like DiOrio’s, pizza is a food enjoyed by many.

As I drove to the end of Bardstown Road where it meets Baxter Avenue, I saw the sign to DiOrio’s Pizza & Pub and decided to give it a try. It did not stick out like all the other popular Bardstown eats, which is probably why I had never noticed it before.

With the dark lighting and bar with alcohol all the way to the ceiling I began to question if this was a pizza place. The building itself seemed older, but it also had a lot of character. I had never seen a pizza/ pub quite like it.

We took our seats and grabbed thin paper menus from our table. A waitress soon came to help us after we seated ourselves.

The menu is extensive. DiOrio’s serves wings, pasta, hoagies and pizza. The single slice of pizza caught my eye because it is described as one-sixth of a 20-inch pizza, and I could customize it. A slice of just cheese was $4.50 with each addition topping costing 97 cents. I decided to give it a try and topped it with artichokes and spinach.

This “slice” looks more like a small pizza. It was bigger and tastier than I had expected. It was the perfect size for me, and it was a great price.

Although the service seemed slow at times, this classic pub offered a cool atmosphere, good pizza and great prices. A 10-inch pizza ranged from $10 to $14, and a 20-inch ranged from $24 to $27. Other sizes were offered as well. Popular hoagies were $10 for 10 inches and seemed filling enough.

This spot may be my new favorite pizza place because it was convenient and offered a unique pub atmosphere. This seems like place to meet your friends to watch a game on one of the TVs or enjoy a massive slice of pizza. Either way, DiOrio’s delivered more than just pizza.

DiOrio’s is open every day at 11 a.m. and doesn’t close until 4 a.m. on Fridays and Saturdays to satisfy these late-night pizza cravings. DiOrio’s can be found on Instagram as @dioriospizzapub.
