It is the start of a new semester, and students are stirring around campus. All commuters really want to do is go back home and bed down on their nice plush leather sofas with their huge unopened, $400 hardcover textbook. In their minds, they know their mothers will be making dinner, fathers will be watching the game with the volume turned all the way up and their pets will be staring them down with those big eyes. It is 99 percent guaranteed that not a single word will be read or a single sentence written in those living rooms.

Thanks to the renovated commuter couch area in Horrigan Hall, commuters can study in a place of comfort just like home. The commuter couch area received renovations over the summer.

According to the Student Government Association’s Commuter Renovation Bill, the goal of the renovation was to, “promote a better environment for commuters during free time.”

Many luxurious features have been added like comfortable, private lounge/study chairs, a high-top table for more collaborative study sessions; new lighting; new flooring; and a new pool table.

Bellarmine commuter Haley Tinsley said, “I think the commuter center needed a nice update. Before it was dull and boring, but now it’s more lively and exciting. It helps bring a sense of community throughout Bellarmine.”

This area has become the Horrigan living room couch area.

Not only did this space add comfort, but it also was cost efficient. Student Government Association Vice President of Finance Nick Rudisill said, “The combined cost that was approved was $73,636.08, but the whole thing actually came in under budget at approximately $69,000.”
