Members of BUKnighted held a candlelit vigil Nov. 16 for Transgender Day of Remembrance on the Quad.

Names of transgender people murdered in the last year, including 14 in the United States alone, were read by BUKnighted members and candles were lit in remembrance.

Sassa Rivera, head of public relations for BUKnighted, said the new Centro building would feature several gender-neutral bathrooms and asked students to share their experiences with transgender people and their thoughts.

A discussion about gender identity followed, with Liam Telmhalder and Kaleb Allen, who are both transgender, discussing their experiences in coming to terms with who they are.

Flags, one for each transgender person killed in the last year, were placed in the Quad and will remain there for one week.

The vigil ended with a plea to remember the transgender lives that have been lost.
