With Valentine’s Day quickly approaching, many people are undoubtedly searching for the perfect place to take their special someone for dinner. Whether you are dining solo, with someone special, or even a group of friends – Anselmo’s Bistro and Bar is the perfect place to try.

Located at 1511 Bardstown Road, across the street from Smoothie King, Anselmo’s is a hidden treasure of Italian wonders. The restaurant prides itself on the Grandma’s style Italian specialties made from scratch.

Some of the most popular items from the menu include the lasagna, baked spaghetti, ravioli, and rattlesnake pasta. Aside from their classic specialties, Anselmo’s has a variety of appetizers from meatballs and bruschetta to fresh garlic humus and spinach artichoke dip.

The restaurant also offers a wide selection of Italian hoagies, salads and soups, flatbread pizzas, pastas, desserts, and of course they have an adult beverage menu of tasteful wines and cocktails.

I had the chance to try the Sicilian Sliders, which are house-made Sicilian meatballs topped with mozzarella cheese, served on crostini with a side of meat sauce.

For the dinner options, I chose to make my own pasta dish with rigatoni noodles and Alfredo sauce. Each pasta dish comes with a slice of garlic bread and a salad or the option of a side. I had the steamed broccoli as a side and would definitely recommend it.

Not only is the food outstanding, but the atmosphere of the restaurant is very relaxing.

There are round tables throughout the front dining area with seating for about two to six people per table. From the crimson-colored walls to the white-linen-covered tables, the restaurant has the feeling of a “little Italy” joint. There is also a bar seating option in front of a TV, and if weather permits, they encourage outside dining alongside Bardstown Road.

Anselmo’s is open every day from 5-11 p.m. Each dish price ranges from $6.99 to $18.99. They offer happy hour Monday-Friday from 5 to 6 p.m. and 10 to 11 p.m.

Five certain appetizers are only $5 during those times as well. They accept to-go orders, so feel free to check out their full menu online and place an order if you prefer to dine at home.

Anselmo’s Bistro and Bar is the perfect “little Italy” experience. The menu offers a dish for everyone, and it is a unique local dining experience worth a try.
