Bellarmine University is close to announcing its newest president and will make the announcement within the next 8-10 days.

A source close to the situation confirmed that the Bellarmine faculty council met with Pat Molloy and Don Berg from the board of trustees and Ernest Marshall and Matisa Wilbon from the presidential search committee. Members of the faculty council learned that after narrowing the search to four candidates, the search committee unanimously decided on one candidate.

Faculty members were not told who the candidate is, but they did learn that the candidate comes from a university and is not a politician or a corporate executive. The unnamed candidate has some teaching experience but has largely remained in university administration. The source said although the announcement is expected to be made within the next eight to 10 days, it may come sooner.

A Bellarmine spokesman declined to comment. The Concord will continue to update this story.
