The spring semester is just getting started, but Bellarmine students soon will grow tired of the on-campus food options. Luckily, Bellarmine’s location near Bardstown Road offers many nearby restaurants for students to try.

One of these fine establishments is Ditto’s Grill. Located at 1114 Bardstown Road, Ditto’s provides a wide variety of dishes to suit even the pickiest palates. The restaurant, which has been around since 1990, has always been a staple for those in need of an appetizing burger or, for those 21 and older, a drink from the bar.

Ditto’s appeal comes from its unique menu. Along with its regular burger menu, Ditto’s also boasts an ever-changing seasonal menu, with its current menu offering an Italian theme.

When I visited Ditto’s Grill, I ordered an angus burger with cheddar cheese and bacon with a side of fries. The burger can be made to order, and I got mine medium well. It was extremely juicy and the dressings were fresh and crisp. The fries were served in a medium-sized basket and were fried to golden perfection with very little grease. The burger was $12, and the fries added $2.50.

If you’re in the mood for a sweet treat, Ditto’s has you covered. Its dessert menu is also seasonal, with its current pies being cherry and coconut cream. During my visit, I indulged in a slice of cherry pie that was large enough for two people. The pies, along with the other desserts, are $8.

The atmosphere in Ditto’s is warm and inviting. It differs immensely from a regular bar and grill restaurant. It has many small tables, cozy booths and bar seating. The walls feature several TVs which played sports recaps and national news. Other walls were decorated with oddities, such as a mermaid and small chicken statues.

In my experience at Ditto’s, the staff was extremely friendly and allowed my dining experience to be as smooth as possible. It took the staff around 15 to 20 minutes to prepare the food, and they frequently refilled my drink. When I asked to see a dessert menu, they explained all of the items and recommended their preference. It was served within 10 minutes of being ordered.

Ditto’s is located roughly two miles from campus, which is a short car ride away for students. They have a small parking lot behind the building for those who have a fear of parallel parking.
