Homecoming week is a long-running Bellarmine tradition. The entire campus is buzzing with excitement as the BU community comes together for a week of school spirit. This year, homecoming week runs from Monday to Saturday.

Late Knight Madness kicks off the festivities Monday. The event will feature a performance from the BU Dance Company and a variety of games, such as knockout and musical chairs. Women’s basketball head coach Chancellor Dugan will drop by to fire up the students.

Bellarmine Activities Council (BAC) members Jack Clines and Hayley Tinsley planned the event with students in mind.

“It’s a Bellarmine tradition,” Clines said. “We… know what works. Some years people say it’s boring, and some years people say it’s really fun, so we know what we can go off.”

Late Knight Madness also will feature some of the ever-popular free Bellarmine T-shirts.

“People like it a lot because that’s when the T-shirts come, and people go nuts for the long sleeve (shirts),” Clines said.

The homecoming dance will be held at the Ice House on Friday at 9 p.m. This year’s theme is A Knight on the Town.

The décor is one of the dance’s major highlights. Fairy lights will be strung throughout the venue, and the delicate table centerpieces will contribute to the alluring atmosphere. Marie Gould, who helped plan the dance, said a projector will cast a skyline on the wall.

The BAC joined forces with the Student Activities Center to plan a dance that students would love.

“It’s been pretty collaborative,” said BAC Director of Public Affairs Jacob Brown. “We’ve worked really well together and the rest of BAC has been a big help.”

The dance also will feature a cash bar for students who are 21 and older. Students must have an ID to purchase anything from the bar, and no outside alcoholic beverages will be allowed in the venue.

Tickets are still available through the BAC for $8.

The men’s and women’s basketball games on Saturday against McKendree University will bring homecoming week to a close. The women play at 1 p.m., and the men’s game will follow at 3:15 p.m. The theme is a scarlet-out, so fans should be sure to rock their scarlet gear in Knights Hall.
